The size of this speaker is perfect for using a projector, it easily fills up the room. The bass quality of the Flip 5 beats the majority of other speakers on this list, with a clean and punchy, defined low end. This is the definition of deep bass! FAQ
How do you connect wireless speakers to a projector?
Bluetooth speakers provide convenience and flexibility in high-quality sound distribution. The Bluetooth connection allows the user to stream music from any Bluetooth-enabled phone or tablet, and also eliminates the need for cables and/or power cords.
Before connecting your speaker system to a projector, it will be helpful to determine what type of connection your Bluetooth speaker system has.
For those with the 3.5mm jack input on their speaker system, you can connect it easily by using an AUX cable (also known as a 3.5mm stereo audio cable) plugged into your device’s headphone jack then plugged into the sound input on the back of your Bluetooth speaker system.
If you want to use the Bluetooth connection, you will have to pair the speakers either to the projector or to whatever device is sending the video to the projector.
If you are streaming a program from a laptop, PC, Tablet, or Phone, the projector will be receiving the video from these devices. You will also want to send the audio from these devices to the speakers. Simply open the Bluetooth Devices settings section on your phone or PC, and pair the device to your Bluetooth speakers. Make sure the device is set to use these speakers, then when you play the video on the projector, the sound should automatically be sent to your Bluetooth speakers.
For specific information, refer to the user manual of your external speaker for details on how to connect using Bluetooth, as it can vary from brand to brand. If you plan on using them as computer speakers, you may need to buy an adapter for your PC – or use a different audio output.
What to Look for in Bluetooth external speakers for a projector?
Bluetooth speakers for projectors can vary in price and features. The use-case for these speakers is to provide a clear and immersive sound, without the hassle of tangled wires. We’ve put together this list of factors to consider when choosing speakers for projectors. The best speakers will be slightly different for everyone. But, in general, the best speakers will show strengths in all the below features.
Sound Quality:
I think and excellent sound quality is one of the most important features to focus on with speakers for projectors.
Having clear, accurate audio makes a huge improvement to the immersion of a film. On the flip side, having poor audio quality can be distracting, and almost make the watching experience a pain.
In an ideal world, you should forget you are even listening to speakers. It should feel like all the sounds in the movie are really happening around you, that’s what I like anyway.
In general, aim for a well balanced sound. Bass-boosted speakers are great for music, but don’t always work well for watching movies. Using speakers with a crisp sound is great for dialogue, but if the quality is too crisp, it can become tiny, this is why balance is important. A quality sound for an external speaker is a balanced sound.
If you’re buying online, there isn’t a way to test the quality of the speakers. The best judge is to find their frequency range and wattage. These specifications give an indication to the tone and volume capabilities respectively.
A wider frequency range is always better. Speakers with good low end (bass) performance are usually more expensive and larger, based on the differences in production methods. Good bass requires larger, high quality speaker cones.
Ideally the speakers go as low as 30Hz, but this is quite rare. Anything with 100Hz and up is good enough for projectors, although if you want sub bass, they need to go as low as 60 or 40 Hz.
As for high frequencies (treble), any speakers with a max frequency of 15kHz and below run the risk of sounding muffled. All the speakers on this list fall above this range, so they should sound as clear as you need. The best speakers would have a frequency range of something like 20Hz – 20kHz.
An affordable way to get great bass in your projector setup is to use an external wireless subwoofer, like this Polk Audio system.
Stereo & connecting to Multiple Devices.
Most speakers on this list are stereo, which means they have separate speaker cones for the left and right channels. Using dual speakers allows for a much more realistic sound, which accurately represents the audio’s stereo field. If you want quality sound, using a stereo external speaker is important. It also gives you a louder sound.
Stereo sound is particularly important for movies, where often the sounds are panned around the left and right channels. It makes watching movies a whole lot more immersive in stereo, watching in mono is a little more boring.
Alternatively, some external speaker brands have a linking mode, which lets them connect external speakers to the host speaker. This can create an even wider and more immersive stereo image. Having the separate sources (two full range speakers) is great for movies as the left and right channels can be placed at any place in the room you like.
Some brands even let you connect multiple devices together. Using multiple devices is a great way to create a cheap surround sound setup, and with a good sound for the price!
Battery Life / Powering:
One of the most important considerations when looking for speakers for projectors is battery life. You want to make sure that you can use it without it running out of power mid-projection.
All Bluetooth external speakers are powered by batteries. This is great when you’re taking them outside, but might not be so ideal when you are using them in a fixed location, like a projector setup.
Rechargeable batteries are useful for external speakers, and generally you want to buy the speaker with the longest battery life. However, when it comes to projectors, you can think about the powering situation a bit differently.
If you plan on using the speakers mostly with a projector, similar to how you’d use wired speakers, then you want to make sure the wireless external speakers have a power cable or wall plug solution. A USB power cable also works in this situation.
Ideally you want to be able to plug the external speaker into a wall socket, so it can be powered continuously while you watch your projector. If it doesn’t have this, the battery could run out whilst you’re watching movies, so you’ll have to wait for it to charge.
The best projector speakers will have this option, and all of the speakers on this list are chosen for you with this consideration in mind.
Connection Range:
The strength and quality of the Bluetooth receiver in the projector speaker system are also something to consider. You don’t want your audio to cut out midway through an important scene, or be distracted by low quality, muffled sound.
Check the connection range of the speaker system you choose is adequate for the room you plan to use it in. Make sure the range covers the distance you will have between the speaker and projector.
A good range should provide at least 30 feet of connectivity, but it could be helpful to double that distance zone – especially if you have a large house or thick walls.
Generally the ranges on this list should be fine, but it’s something worth working out before you buy your new speakers for projectors.
Controls & Remote Control:
An often overlooked feature of external speakers is their control system. When you’re sitting down watching a movie, the last thing you want to do is having to repeatedly get up and down to change the volume.
All speakers are a little bit different when it comes to this factor. Most speakers for projectors have some kind of built-in buttons, but this isn’t everything.
You will want to use some kind of remote control system. Some external speakers use a physical remote control which is great because you can just change the settings on the speaker without having to get up or use your phone. The main thing is having easy access to the volume control.
Alternatively, other external speaker models let you control them with your phone or laptop. All external speakers are a bit different when it comes to the controls but you can pick up some with decent control systems at an affordable price. In general, the best external speakers will have a remote.
Audio Inputs:
One last thing I thought was worth mentioning for the best external speakers is flexible audio input. Some audio devices also have different audio cables which are great if you don’t always want to use the Bluetooth connection of your speaker.
A lot of devices have a 3.5 mm aux input or a connection for RCA audio cables. If you own a speaker with these ports, you can use them to connect to your device without having to purchase an adapter or an audio cable. If your device doesn’t have these connectors, it might need an adapter before connecting it to the speaker if you plan on using it wirelessly.
Conclusion
Overall, our top choice for the best Bluetooth speaker was the Bose Soundlink Revolve.
The Bose SoundLink Revolve is the best speaker for projectors on the market because they provide 360° immersive sound projection from a single speaker, unmatched sound quality, and the Bose Soundlink app allows you to control your speaker with your voice. They also come with a battery that lasts up to 12 hours and easy controls.
